Vintage Hair Masterclass

Jean Harlow. Rita Hayworth. Audrey Hepburn.

Three icons. Three eras. Three completely different approaches to vintage hair.

Join me for a brand-new live online masterclass recreating three iconic hairstyles, from the sculpted glamour of the 1930s and the screen-siren hair of the 1940s to one of the most famous updos of the 1960s.

All three looks are completely new to my education programme — I've never taught these styles or techniques in any of my previous hair courses.

Taking inspiration from authentic setting and styling methods of each era, we'll create each look from the set through to the finished style, exploring not just how to recreate it, but how the set itself creates the shape.

THE LOOKS

JEAN HARLOW — 1930s

We begin with the sculpted glamour of the 1930s, creating a Jean Harlow-inspired look combining sculpted waves with a faux bob.

Using a curling-iron pin-curl set, we'll create the movement and shape needed for those unmistakable 1930s waves, before transforming longer hair into the illusion of a beautifully dressed short bob.

RITA HAYWORTH — 1940s

Next, we're recreating the incredible glamour of Rita Hayworth in Gilda.

We'll create a curling-iron pin-curl setting pattern specifically for this look, inspired by authentic setting techniques of the era, before dressing it out into Rita's signature combination of sculpted movement and big, soft, glamorous waves.

AUDREY HEPBURN — 1960s

Finally, one of the most iconic hairstyles in cinema: Audrey Hepburn's Breakfast at Tiffany's updo.

We'll create the foundation with a curling-iron set before using backcombing, structure, smoothing and shaping to build that unmistakable height and elegant 1960s silhouette.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

Across the three looks, we'll explore:

  • How to create curling-iron pin-curl sets designed around the finished style

  • How curl direction and placement influence movement and shape

  • Creating smooth, sculpted 1930s waves

  • Transforming long hair into a convincing faux bob

  • Dressing out a set for soft, expansive 1940s glamour

  • Building height, structure and volume for 1960s upstyling

  • Backcombing and smoothing without losing shape

  • How authentic period setting principles can be adapted for modern styling

Most importantly, you'll learn to think beyond simply following a setting pattern — understanding why the hair is set in a particular direction and how to manipulate your set to create the finished style you want.

HOW THE COURSE WORKS

THE ICONS will be taught live online across 3 tutorial videos, taking you through each look from the initial curling-iron pin-curl set right through to the finished style.

Classes will take place live inside a private Facebook group, where you'll be able to watch, ask questions and learn alongside me.

Can't make the live class? No problem. Every tutorial will remain available in the group to watch back whenever suits you.

Once the course is complete, you'll also receive permanent downloadable copies of all the tutorials, so you'll always have access to the course.

What you’ll Need:

  • Long human hair mannequin or model - the better quality the better the results. and tripod or clamp to hold head on

  • 19mm (3/4 inch) curling iron

  • Strong Hold Hairspray

  • A smoothing balm/pomade product e.g. Black and White hair pomade

  • Plenty of duckbill/metal section clips

  • Tail Comb, Soft Bristle Back-combing brush, Dressing Out Brush or Denman etc.

  • Hair Tie/Elastic

  • Bobby Pins
